3rd Sunday in Lent

The Gospel today describes Jesus’ displeasure with the money changers & traders in the Temple. The Temple was where the sacrifice would be offered. Those who engaged as traders and money changers in the Temple served a practical purpose. They would sell animals for the sacrifice to those who needed them. Perhaps they were over charging because Jesus referred to them as a den of thieves. The actions of Jesus in the temple offer an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and worship. The Eucharist is the highest act of worship of the Lord’s Church. The Eucharist is the renewal of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross. We unite ourselves with Jesus’ sacrifice and offer our lives in the service of God and neighbor. This Gospel helps us to see that in Jesus all things are made new.
