Solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ. This celebration offers us an opportunity to reflect on what we believe about the gift of the Eucharist which Jesus gave to the Church. We can say that the Lord is present in various ways. He is present in the Word of God. He is present in the community of the faithful. However, the Lord is present in a unique way in the Eucharist. At the Las Supper, Jesus took bread and said, “this is My Body given for you. He then took the cup and said, take this and drink for this is the cup of My Blood which will be poured out for you. Do this in memory of me.” In the Eucharist the power pf the death and resurrection become present. In Holy Communion we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today’s celebration makes us more fully aware of the priceless treasure Jesus gave to His Church.
