The Third Sunday of Easter

All the Gospels show that the resurrection of Jesus wasn’t easy for the disciples to grasp. They weren’t quite sure what to make of the resurrection appearances. Today’s gospel reading shows Jesus sharing some fish by the seashore. The gospel emphasizes this so that people would realize that the resurrection wasn’t simply a spiritual phenomenon. The Disciples could see that there was something the same about Jesus, and at the same time, something different. Jesus now possessed a transformed body. He is now present in a different way.

Toward the end of today’s gospel Jesus emphasizes that just as he proclaimed the kingdom, so now the disciples must proclaim Jesus as the risen Lord to the world.
