Today is the First Sunday of Lent. The gospel message tells of the testing of Jesus. In each case the test has to do with how Jesus should use his power. Should he use it to somehow prove his divinity? Jesus doesn’t have to prove anything. His life, death, and resurrection will take care of that. In the meantime, he must witness to the presence of God’s love.

 Human beings are sometimes tempted to think that they can find true fulfillment apart from God. People may think that they don’t really need God. This is false. True happiness and fulfillment can only be found in God. Let us pray that Lent will remind us where true happiness is found.
