19th Sunday in Ordinary Time- Do not Fear

Scripture Reflection

The Gospel today shows us another example of placing our faith and trust in Jesus. He had told the disciples to get in the boat and precede him to the other side of the lake. While in the boat, a storm came up causing wind and waves. The fearful disciples see Jesus walking on the water toward them. Jesus identifies himself and tells the disciples not to fear. Peter gets the idea to walk to Jesus on the water. He doesn’t get very far before he starts to fear and sink in the water. He calls out for help, and Jesus catches him. This story is about believing that the Lord is always present in our lives. This is especially when we are encountering storms in our own lives: Sometimes in need to hear Jesus’ words, “Take courage it is I, do not fear”.
