23rd Sunday In Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today, people bring a man to Jesus with a couple impairments; he couldn’t hear or speak. The people who brought the man to Jesus believed that He could heal him. They believed that Jesus would bring the power of God for healing of body and soul. Jesus brought immediate healing to the man. He could once again hear and speak. Jesus proclaims the presence of God’s Kingdom through his healing.

Jesus then tells the disciples not to tell anyone about what happened. Jesus didn’t want His mission to be limited to healing. He would be the living sign of God’s presence. It is the Lord who gives hope. We pay special attention to Jesus’ words in the Gospel, “fear not”.
