As we know from the Gospels, John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord. Now John proclaims, “Look, there is the Lamb of God.” This sets the stage for what is to come. Jesus asks, “What are you looking for?” The disciples then ask, “Where are you staying?” The only way to find the answer is to accept Jesus’ invitation, “Come and you will see.” Three accept Jesus’ invitation. Andrew declares that they have found the Messiah. The disciples don’t come to understand Jesus’ identity immediately; it’s something that will come gradually through their relationship with Jesus. Through encountering Jesus, the disciples will be transformed. We too are transforming by accepting Jesus’ invitation to follow. The invitation involves following the Lord in the ordinary circumstances of life.
