31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Gospel teaches us today that we need to witness to the Good News with both words and deeds. Words must always be accompanied by actions. In the Gospel, we see (or hear?) Jesus thoughts on this. He warns the disciples not to follow the example of the Pharisees. Jesus warns against doing things for show or calling attention to ourselves. As Jesus says, “The greatest among you must be your servant, for whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus’ message is just as important for us today as it was for disciples of long ago. We can all probably think of people in our lives who are a good example to us about living a life of service and charity. It could be a parent, priest, religious, teacher, or a multitude of others. May our own lives give testimony to our love for the Lord.
