33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called on his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another, two; to a third, one– to each according to their ability. Then he went away.” (Mt 25:14-15)

The Gospel today teaches us a valuable lesson about being a responsible disciple with what has been entrusted to us. The three servants were given talents (money) from the master. Two of them invested the talents and were able to increase what had been entrusted to them. The third servant buried the talents. He was unable to show the master an increase. The first and second servants are people who take responsibility for the gifts they have been given. We have been given much. We must imitate the love and generosity of Jesus, make God’s Kingdom visible.
