In the Gospel passage today, Jesus heals the mother-in-law of Peter; he also heals many others. We have to keep in mind that Jesus is doing more than healing individuals in a physical sense. He gives the hope and new beginning. In regard to Peter’s mother-in-law, Jesus took her by the hand and lifted her up. She was raised up to new life by the power of Jesus. Word about Jesus spread rapidly among the people. People were coming to him from many places. Jesus’ mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Personal benefit or authority play no authority in Jesus’ mission. It was about service to God’s people. We are called to share in that mission.
