“My sheep hear my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish,” (John 10)
The image of the Good Shepherd is one that has brought comfort and also challenge to God’s people. Seeing Jesus as the shepherd is akin to the image of the vine and the branches. Both images point to the closeness of the relationship between ourselves and the Lord.
The gospel speaks of hearing the voice of the shepherd. This is done by being attentive to the presence of God in our lives. We are attentive to God’s presence through the Eucharist and prayer. May Jesus our Shepherd bless us.
