December 13, 2015 Third Sunday of Advent

 Scripture Reflection

In the Gospel today, John the Baptist proclaims a message of change and repentance. John’s message leads some to ask what sort of things they should do to show their faith. John uses several examples: Those who have clothing and food  should share what they have with those in need. Tax collectors should treat people fairly. People should not use their authority for personal gain.

Further in the gospel, John addresses the issue of some who think that he is the Messiah. John points their attention to Jesus and says that “One mightier than I is coming; I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.”

We continue to wait in joyful anticipation for the Nativity of Jesus.
