December 6, 2016 Second Sunday in Advent

Scripture Reflection

On this Second Sunday of Advent, the Gospel proclaims the role of John the Baptist. His mission is to announce the beginning of a new age which will start with Jesus Christ. With the coming of Jesus the new age has begun.

John quotes some of the prophets as he tells people to “prepare the way of the Lord.” John’s way of preparing people for the Lord’s coming is by proclaiming a baptism of repentance. This baptism of repentance involved re-orienting one’s life to God, and re-committing oneself to following God’s call.

Let us celebrate this Advent season with great faith, so that we may more fully appreciate the holy mystery of Jesus’ nativity.
