October 4, 2015-Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Pharisees would sometimes try to paint Jesus into a corner by asking questions about sensitive issues. They would usually pose the question in such a way that no matter how Jesus would answer, it wouldn’t be right. Whenever Jesus was asked one of these kind of questions he wouldn’t fall into their trap. The Pharisees asked him a question about marriage. Jesus quotes from scripture, “For this reason a man should leave his father and mother and be united to his wife.” (Genesis).

St. Paul will later reflect on  the nature of marriage by saying that the relationship of the couple reflects the love of Christ and his Church. It is a relationship based on fidelity, permanence and marked by loving unconditionally.

Let us pray for all married couples and for those preparing for marriage.
