Pentecost Sunday

Jesus said, “peace be with you.” As the Father has sent me so I send you. When he had said this he breathed on them and said, “receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20)

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost. It marks the beginning of the Church. With the gift of the Holy Spirit, life has been breathed into Church. The Holy Spirit strengthens the Church so that it might faithfully proclaim the Gospel. We can compare the work of the Holy Spirit to the power of the wind. We can’t see the wind, but we can see the affects of the wind. So also, we can’t see the Holy Spirit, but we can see what the spirit does. When we love as Jesus loves, then we see the work of the Holy Spirit. When we try to live our faith with sincerity and devotion, we can see the work of the Holy Spirit.  Happy Pentecost.
