Scripture Reflection for the 2nd Sunday of Lent

Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord.  Transfiguration is one of the words we don't normally use in conversation.  The word means "to change in appearance." There are a number of events in the Gospels which point to the divinity of Jesus.  It is an event that gives hope to the apostles.  The transfiguration will help prepare the apostles for the passion and death of Jesus.  The experience of the apostles will enable them to begin to believe in resurrection and new life of Jesus.  Its not just the apostles whose faith is strenthened, but ours also.  Through faith we come to know that it is Jesus who sustains us with mercy to deal with the realities of our earthy journey.
