Transfiguration Sunday

Scripture Reflection

“Jesus took Peter, James and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them.” (Mt 17:1)

Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord. “Transfiguration” means to change in appearance. In the Gospels, there are a number of events which are intended to reveal the divine nature of Jesus. The Transfiguration is one of those events that show the true identity of Jesus. This Gospel passage is about hope. We see the light and glory of the resurrection in Jesus. The experience of the Transfiguration will enable the disciples to believe in the resurrection. We are also strengthened to believe in the glory of the resurrection. Just like Peter, James and John our faith is strengthened through Jesus’ presence.
